Babies and Snow

Yesterday I was out of the house most of the day and once 4 pm hit, I had no clue what to cook for dinner. I decided I didn’t want to cook and thought, since it’s Friday night it would be fun to all load up in the car and meet Dan for dinner. And, well, I really just wanted a Moe’s chicken burrito. Let’s be honest. We normally eat dinner around 5:30 and we didn’t get to the restaurant until 6, so the kids were hungry and pushing whiny. Once we finally got through  the line and sat down to eat, Joshua lost it. He started to throw his chips on the floor.

So apparently my inspiration to write these days only comes around about once a week. Life has been busy and I often feel like I can’t keep up with the blog and sometimes wonder what is the point.  I am just a simple wife and mother just doing my best to live out the job God has generously given me.

Day by Day

It is Saturday and that fact makes this mommy so happy. It was a long week, trying to get back into routine after Christmas break. And it was so cold! I know, I know, I have no right to complain, we live in Alabama, and I have no intentions to do so, but it was cold! My kids, who have never really seen snow, were amazed by the frozen water fountains and to them it was their winter wonderland.

On Friday we found out that Kolbe had the flu. When the nurse called with the positive result, I immediately flashed

back to when Kolbe was in the hospital with the flu and pneumonia about a year and a half ago. Definitely did not want to repeat that experience. Thankfully he is already on the mend! And so far the other two seem fine.

So we spent the weekend at home, resting and watch lots of “Dinosaur Train”. While sitting with kids, watching these episodes again, I started to reflect on all of the dinosaur knowledge that I have gained over the past year, that I never would have dreamed I would know in this lifetime. I apparently missed out on the dinosaur phase as a child and now I guess I am making up for it. I never thought I would be able to tell you that Allosaurus means “different lizard” and that Pteranodons are not dinosaurs, but pterosaurs. And apparently the Brontosaurus never really existed, but the Brachiosaurus and the Diplodocus did. Mind blown.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!  As I sit here typing, I am still enjoying the lights from our Christmas tree, even though the branches are quite brittle and dead. Today is the first day of the new year and the last day of Christmas vacation.  Despite the short break, we did manage to have a lot of fun and even accomplished a few things around the house. It was awesome having Dan home for a straight week and a half. I loved walking into the kitchen to find him laying on the floor, with the pull-out trash can on top of him,  fixing it so that it would close again…and then he went around and tightened every knob on our kitchen cabinets.  Merry Christmas present to me…it’s the little things.  We spent a lot of time with family and friends and just enjoyed being together.

Happy Advent!

Well I apologize in advance, it’s a long post, and kind of random…

First, happy anniversary Mom and Dad! !

We are have way through Advent- and I can’t believe it! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family. And I don’t really have any pictures to prove it. Every thanksgiving we go to my aunt and uncle’s house in the afternoon for a turkey hunt and then there is a surprise visit from Santa. This year Emma confidently asked for a pony….

Following Thanksgiving, we, along with the Tobin family,  took a little trip to New Orleans and spent Saturday and Sunday with some college friends.

Little Words

Kolbe: “Mommy, I think for Christmas I want a volcano…a volcano that explodes red dinosaur blood…and bones.”
Lauren: “Oh, alright, that’s normal.”

After watching her first school pep rally:
Emma: “I think I want to be a cheerleader when I grow up. Watch my new cheer! Give me an A! Give me a B! Give me a C! Give me a D!….
20 letters later
Give me a Y! Give me a Z! What’s that spell???”

One afternoon, I decided to try out a new exercise video. Because I am in excellent shape, I had to stop and take a breather.
Emma: “Mommy, the people on the video didn’t stop, why did you?”
Lauren: …….
Humility at it’s finest.

While playing hide and seek:
Kolbe (with a very concerned voice): “I lost Emma…I lost my sister Emma…Emma!??…Emma are you home????”
I guess he still doesn’t quite get the concept of the game…

Potato Delivery

I was sitting on our front stoop and watching the boys quietly dig in the dirt. They each had their own holes they were working on and they were in their own little worlds. My attention then turned toward the house across the street. A sweet elderly couple lives there. The wife is not able to get around very well and spends most of her time at home. The husband is retired and spends his days loving and serving her. At this particular moment he had pulled into the driveway and he slowly got out of the car and then walked to the passenger side and picked up a bag of groceries, a Chick-fil-a bag and two drinks. He walked up to the front door and once the door was opened, I heard him say, “potato delivery” and then the door was shut. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched this little moment and reflect on the gift of marriage.

Two weekends ago, Dan and I had the opportunity to go on a retreat. Just the two of us. With no kids. Dan needed to attend for his job and since it was a retreat geared towards married couples, me joining him was kind of a must.

Weekends and Weddings

I love the weekends, especially when Dan doesn’t have any work events that he has to be at. This past weekend we got to have lots of family time and it was such a gift.
