The Boys Room

I have been wanting to blog about some of the projects that we have done around the house and I thought I would start with the boys room.  The boys love dinosaurs, pirates, and  swords. They love to be outside and love to go on all sorts of creative adventures. And I wanted their room to reflect that.

Mommy: What is your favorite dinosaur?

Kolbe: Giganotosaurus.

Joshua: Allosaurus.

Kolbe: No, you mean T-Rex.

Joshua: Um, no. It’s Giganotosaurus.

I love my boys. They are trouble, they are adventurous, and they so much fun. Kolbe is 5 and Joshua is 3 and they are really starting to play together. I love watching them become best buds (or partners in crime, take your pick). It is so interesting to see how their little personalities are developing and how they interact with each other.

It was a typical crazy morning in the Johnson household. We were all running around getting dressed, eating breakfast, making lunches, etc. Emma had field day at school, so she was extremely excited and ready to leave for school earlier than normal. It was also First Friday, so there was a school Mass which I wanted to take the rest of the kids to. Dan had a meeting that morning, so he went ahead and took Emma and I continued to run around the house looking for diapers, keys, and one lost shoe.

We’re still here.

I was looking at my last blog post and was amazed by what has occurred in our family life since then. It’s been 9 months and during those nine months we decided to put our house on the market, sold our house, bought a new house across the bay, Emma and Kolbe switched schools, and we got a dog.

Unsung Heroes

I know it’s been awhile since I blogged, but we are still here, and loving this wonderful and chaotic life we have been blessed with. I decided to visit my little blog again this morning to share about my family’s new ministry (and Dan’s new job)! Almost a year ago, a conversation started with my parents and siblings about the possibility of creating a new company- one that created video projects that spread the message of the good, true, and beautiful. We wanted  to do our part to help bring light to our culture today.

Yesterday, I published a post that was primarily an update on how the kids are adjusting to Faustina’s arrival. This morning, I felt inspired to share a few thoughts about how I am adjusting and trying to let go of my desires to be a perfect mother for my children. My parish is offering a mom’s book study and we are reading the book Momnipotent by Danielle Bean. The chapter that I read this morning, while sipping coffee and holding my two youngest at 5:30 a.m., was all about perfectionism.

4 times the fun

It’s funny, three weeks ago I was impatiently waiting for Faustina to arrive, feeling very confidant as a mother and not worried about the transition from having three at home to suddenly having four.  I wasn’t expecting all of the growing that would take place during Faustina’s first two weeks at home- and by growing, I don’t just mean our sweet newborn. Dan was able to work from home the entire first week, which was an incredible gift.  He took over all of the errands, school drop offs and pick ups, and chores around the house. Needless to say, I shed a few tears when he actually had to go back to the office. He still found ways to spoil and encourage me by bringing me specialty coffees throughout the second week and he tried to be home whenever he could. Love that man.

Faustina Marie

It is September, the month that we expected to celebrate the birth of our fourth child, but instead we are happily cuddling her in our arms.  On Thursday afternoon, August 28, my Braxton-Hicks contractions began to pick up a little.  It was almost time to go pick up Emma from school and the boys were begging me to let them go play outside.  I know that sounds so sad, but it was the end of August in Alabama, and being over 38 weeks pregnant, I was trying to avoid the heat at all costs. Then Kolbe turned on the charm and said, “But mommy, I just want to go outside and pick some flowers for you.” Smart, little boy and I have no idea where he got that from…

37 weeks

Yesterday I went in for my 37 week appointment. Because I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes earlier in this pregnancy, my doctor wanted me to have an ultrasound to get an estimate on how big our little girl is. I was very much in support of that, one, because it is so fun to get to sneak a peak at her, and two, Joshua was a whopping 10 lbs 6 oz when he was born and I would prefer not to relive that natural delivery…

All things new

New school year, new job, and not so patiently awaiting a new baby…just a few things going on around the Johnson home these days. Recently, I decided to visit my blog, which I actually haven’t done in months, and as I scrolled through the stories and pictures, I became very sentimental about how quickly our children have changed and I was  sad that I had stopped documenting our little family life. So with all of the newness going on in our lives, naturally I thought it was the perfect time to start blogging again.
